Additional
Information
The Mentoring
Project was established in November 2000. The programme
was initiated to provide support for young people, with
an emphasis on males and underachievers in the black community.
In effect the programme aims to link Mentees with positive
role models, who will inspire personal growth and equip
them with the knowledge needed to reach great heights.
- The
programme is designed for young people between the ages
for 13 and 25 years.
- We
have had some difficulties in accessing children in
some local schools, but the general response has been
positive. At present we have 35 Mentors and 25 Mentees
registered with the project. We have also had Mentors
and Mentees who have gone on to bigger and better things
like jobs outside of Birmingham and further education.
- Our
Mentors are mature people of various professions, ranging
from civil serants to Directors who have the experience
of overcoming barriers in our community and are willing
to share their skills, knowledge and time to encourage
and motivate young people.
